Before using Lime Analytics, you need to upload your LinkedIn analytics data. This imports your LinkedIn performance history into Lime, where it can be analyzed, visualized, and tracked over time.
The Upload section is automatically selected when you first access Lime Analytics.
Analytics Upload Status
At the top of the Upload section, you’ll see a visual timeline showing the past year as dots - each dot represents one day.
Dot colors indicate upload status:
- Lime green (bright, fully colored): Analytics data has been uploaded for this day
- Pale or less saturated green: No analytics data uploaded for this day, or partial data
Scan the timeline to see which periods have complete data versus gaps. Ideally, all dots should be bright Lime green, indicating comprehensive analytics coverage for the entire past year.
Upload analytics regularly (monthly or quarterly) to maintain complete data coverage and accurate insights.
How to Upload Your Analytics File
Step 1: Open LinkedIn Analytics
In the Upload Analytics File section, click the green text that says “Click here to open LinkedIn.”
A LinkedIn window opens, taking you directly to LinkedIn’s native analytics interface.
Step 2: Select Date Range
On the LinkedIn analytics screen, choose the date range for the data you want to export.
Choosing date range:
If most dots in Lime are pale (no previous uploads):
Select up to one year - the maximum range LinkedIn allows for a single export. This captures comprehensive historical data.
If most dots are already Lime green (recent uploads exist):
Select only the new time period since your last upload. For example, if you last uploaded three months ago, select the past three months. This fills in the gap without re-downloading data you already have.
Impressions or Engagements toggle:
It doesn’t matter which option is selected (Impressions or Engagements) - the export file contains all data regardless of which view is displayed. Leave it on whatever default appears.
Step 3: Show Results
Click Show Results button on LinkedIn’s analytics page.
LinkedIn processes the request and displays analytics for your selected date range. Wait for the data to appear before proceeding to export.
Step 4: Export the File
Click the blue Export button on the top right of the LinkedIn analytics screen.
LinkedIn generates a file containing your analytics data and initiates download to your computer.
File naming:
You don’t need to rename the file before saving. Lime recognizes LinkedIn’s naming convention and imports the file correctly without requiring specific naming.
The LinkedIn window automatically closes when the download starts.
Step 5: Confirm Completion
On the left side of Lime, click the Done button in the instructions panel.
This confirms you’ve completed the LinkedIn export process and are ready to upload the file to Lime.
Step 6: Upload the File to Lime
At the bottom of the Lime Analytics screen, you’ll see a grey upload box.
Two ways to upload:
Drag and drop (easiest):
- Open your computer’s file browser (Finder on Mac, File Explorer on Windows)
- Navigate to your downloads folder (or wherever the LinkedIn file saved)
- Find the file LinkedIn just exported (look for recent timestamp and LinkedIn naming pattern)
- Click and drag the file from your file browser into the grey upload box in Lime
- Release to drop the file
Click to select:
- Click anywhere in the grey upload box
- Your computer’s file picker opens
- Navigate to your downloads folder
- Select the LinkedIn analytics file
- Click Open or Choose to upload
Step 7: Confirm Successful Import
After uploading, Lime processes the analytics file. This takes a few moments depending on file size.
All days covered by the uploaded file turn bright Lime green on the timeline, showing you now have complete analytics data for those periods.
A confirmation message appears: “LinkedIn analytics imported successfully!”
You’re now ready to explore Lime Analytics - all sections will populate with data from your imported file.
