Logging actions is how you track interactions with connections in Lime. Every comment, DM, chat, meeting, or note you log increases that connection’s Citizen Score and builds a complete relationship history.

Lime doesn’t automatically log actions - you need to manually record them. This manual logging is intentional and necessary because automatically tracking your LinkedIn activity would violate LinkedIn’s Terms of Service. Lime operates within LinkedIn’s guidelines to keep your account safe.

Why Logging Actions Matters

Builds Citizen Scores

Every logged interaction increases the connection’s Citizen Score, showing relationship strength over time. Consistent logging creates accurate scores that reflect genuine relationship development.

Creates relationship history

Logged actions appear in each connection’s timeline, giving you complete context before calls, meetings, or follow-ups. See when you last engaged, what you discussed, and what was promised.

Tracks your effort

Activity logged in Lime appears in Analytics, showing whether your engagement effort correlates with impressions, follower growth, and other results. Without logging, you can’t measure your relationship-building work.

Informs strategy

Aggregate data from logged actions reveals patterns - who you interact with most, which types of connections get your attention, whether engagement distribution aligns with strategic priorities.

Helps you stick to your strategy

Knowing what you’re aiming for, and whether you’ve achieved it each day or week, helps you build the consistency needed to generate leads on LinkedIn.

How to Log Actions

Quick Actions (Contact Card)

Three buttons appear on the top right of each contact card for fast logging (from right to left - square speech bubble for comments, broken speech bubble for DMs, and two speech bubbles for conversations):

Single click: Instantly logs the action (Comment, DM, or Chat) without additional notes. The interaction is recorded immediately and contributes to Citizen Score.

Double click: Opens a text box to add context - what you discussed, what was promised, key takeaways. The note saves with the logged action in the connection’s history.

From Lime Actions Menu

Open any contact card and click Lime Actions to access the full menu of loggable actions:

  • Comment: Log when you commented on this connection’s LinkedIn post.
  • DM: Log when you sent this connection a direct message on LinkedIn.
  • Chat: Log significant conversations - in-person meetings, video calls, extended discussions, coffee meetings (virtual or physical), or substantial exchanges beyond quick messages. Use “Chat” for deeper relationship-building interactions.

From The Week(s) Ahead

When working through check-ins or reminders in The Week(s) Ahead, log actions immediately after completing them:

  • Click the connection’s link (labelled Activity) to view their activity
  • Engage (comment on their post, send a DM, etc.)
  • Use the quick action buttons on their contact card to log what you did (or snooze the reminder by clicking the three dot menu next to the number of days left to follow up)
  • Click the x in the top right of their contact card to close it and return to The Week(s) Ahead

Why Manual Logging (Not Automation)

LinkedIn’s Terms of Service prohibit automation tools that interact with the platform on your behalf - including tools that automatically track your activity, scrape data, or perform actions without manual input.

Lime operates within LinkedIn’s guidelines by requiring manual logging. This keeps your account safe from potential violations that could result in restrictions or bans.

The trade-off is small (clicking a button takes seconds) and the benefit is significant (your LinkedIn account stays secure).

Logging Best Practices

Log immediately after actions: When you comment on someone’s post, log it right away. When you finish a DM conversation, log it before moving to the next task. Immediate logging is accurate logging - waiting until end of day means forgetting what you did.

Add notes when context matters: Use double-click logging or “Leave a Note” to capture details that will be valuable later. “Had great call about their Q4 budget - follow up in December” is more useful than just “Chat logged.”

Log consistently for accurate Citizen Scores: Sporadic logging creates inaccurate relationship strength data. If you log some interactions but forget others, Citizen Scores won’t reflect true relationship development.

Use the right action type: Don’t log everything as “Comment.” Use Chat for substantial conversations, DM for messages, Note for information worth remembering. Accurate categorization makes your relationship history more useful.

Review history before important interactions: Before calls or meetings, review the connection’s history to see recent logged actions. This refreshes your memory about previous conversations and shows you what was promised or discussed.

Logging Actions in Your Workflow

Daily engagement routine:

  • Open The Week(s) Ahead to see today’s check-ins
  • Click each connection’s activity link to view their recent LinkedIn activity
  • Comment on posts, send DMs, or snooze if they haven’t posted
  • Immediately log what you did using quick action buttons

After meetings or calls:

  • Search your connection’s name and open their contact card
  • Double-click “Chat” button
  • Add notes about what was discussed and any follow-up needed
  • Set a dated reminder if specific follow-up timing was agreed (or if you want to make sure you follow up at the right time)

When reviewing Analytics:

Check if logged activity correlates with impression or engagement growth. If you’re logging consistent activity but not seeing results, the strategy may need adjustment.

Why can’t Lime just track everything automatically?

Because automated tracking violates LinkedIn’s Terms of Service and could result in your LinkedIn account being restricted or banned. Manual logging keeps your account safe while still providing comprehensive relationship tracking.

Logging actions takes seconds but provides lasting value - accurate Citizen Scores, complete relationship histories, and data that informs strategy. Make it a habit, and your Lime system becomes an accurate reflection of your relationship-building work.
