Dated reminders are one-time, calendar-specific prompts for actions with specific connections. Unlike check-in schedules (which repeat automatically), dated reminders are for unique events, follow-ups, or time-sensitive actions that need to happen on a particular day.
Use dated reminders when you need to remember to engage with someone at a specific time: following up after a meeting, sending a birthday message, attending their LinkedIn Live session, checking in after a project milestone, or any action tied to a calendar date.
Dated reminders ensure time-sensitive relationship opportunities don’t slip through the cracks. They bridge the gap between systematic engagement (check-in schedules) and opportunistic engagement (responding to specific events or commitments).
Why Dated Reminders Matter
Follow through on commitments
When you tell someone “I’ll send you that resource next week” or “Let’s reconnect after your launch,” dated reminders ensure you actually do it. Following through builds trust and credibility, forgetting damages relationships.
Capture time-sensitive opportunities
LinkedIn Lives, webinars, product launches, conference attendance - these are known-date opportunities to engage. Set reminders to participate, comment, or follow up, ensuring you’re present when it matters most.
Respect natural timing
Some follow-ups have natural timing: wait two weeks after a proposal before checking in, follow up three days after a discovery call, send congratulations the day someone starts a new job. Dated reminders respect these timings without requiring you to remember them manually.
Maintain relationship momentum
After great conversations, the relationship is warm - but that warmth fades if you don’t follow up promptly. Dated reminders ensure follow-ups happen while the conversation is still fresh in both people’s minds.
Personalize at scale
Remembering birthdays, work anniversaries, or personal milestones for hundreds of connections is impossible manually. Dated reminders make personalization scalable - everyone gets acknowledged at the right moment.
Prevent “out of sight, out of mind”
Strategic connections who aren’t on daily or weekly check-in schedules can still need attention at specific times. Dated reminders ensure they’re not forgotten just because they’re not in regular rotation.
Support complex sales cycles
Long sales cycles involve multiple touchpoints over weeks or months. Dated reminders create the follow-up structure: initial contact, follow-up in 3 days, send case study in 1 week, check decision timeline in 2 weeks. Without reminders, leads go cold between touchpoints.
How Dated Reminders Work
Setting Dated Reminders
From a contact card:
- Go to Connections > Card View (or open contact card from any view)
- Click a connection’s name to open their contact card
- Click Set a dated reminder in the Lime Actions section
- Enter the date when you want to be reminded
- Enter the action you need to take (e.g. “Follow up on proposal,” “Attend their LinkedIn Live,” “Send birthday message”)
- Save the reminder
The reminder appears in your dated reminders list and will alert you on the specified date.
From LinkedIn browsing:
While browsing LinkedIn in the Lime app, drag someone’s profile into Lime Control Center.
Their contact card opens - follow the same steps above to set the reminder.
On the scheduled date, the reminder appears in The Week(s) Ahead tab (Menu > The Week(s) Ahead)
- Click the reminder to open the connection’s contact card, view their recent activity, and take the scheduled action.
- After taking the action, log it in Lime to increase your Citizen Score
- Mark the reminder as complete
- Set a new dated reminder if follow-up is needed
Completed reminders remain in the connection’s history, creating a timeline of your relationship development.
When to Use Dated Reminders
Post-meeting follow-ups
After calls, virtual coffees, or in-person meetings, set reminders to:
- Send promised resources or introductions (same day or next day)
- Check in on how the information you shared worked out (1-2 weeks)
- Reconnect for next steps (timing based on what you discussed)
Sales cycle touchpoints
Structure follow-ups throughout the sales process:
- Day 1: Discovery call
- Day 3: “Follow up on discovery call - did they review the information?”
- Day 7: “Send case study and pricing”
- Day 14: “Check on decision timeline”
- Day 30: “Final check-in before moving to nurture”
Event-based engagement
Participate in or acknowledge known-date events:
- “Attend Chris’ LinkedIn Live on product launch - comment during session”
- “Comment on Jo’s post about new job - first day is Monday”
- “Engage with Maria’s conference content - she’s speaking Thursday”
Personal milestone acknowledgment
Show up for personal moments that strengthen relationships:
- Birthdays (if they share them publicly)
- Work anniversaries
- New job start dates
- Company funding announcements or launches
Seasonal or cyclical outreach
Reconnect at regular but non-weekly intervals:
- Quarterly check-ins with past clients not on regular schedules
- Bi-annual touches with referral partners
- Annual “hope this year is going well” messages to peripheral connections
Project or deadline-related follow-ups
Engage around specific timelines:
- “Check in after their Q4 ends - they said budget decisions happen then”
- “Follow up one month before they said their current contract expires”
- “Reconnect after their product launch - they said late March”
Promised content or resource delivery
When you commit to sharing something specific:
- “Send link to that podcast episode I mentioned”
- “Share contact details for the designer they asked about”
- “Forward the article on [topic] they were interested in”
Re-engagement after gaps
When relationships go quiet for strategic reasons:
- “Reconnect in 3 months after they finish their busy season”
- “Check in 2 weeks after their hiring decision is made”
- “Follow up after they return from sabbatical - late September”
Dated Reminder Best Practices
Be specific about the action
Don’t just set reminder for “Follow up with Krishna.” Instead: “Follow up with Krishna about proposal - did they review pricing? Any questions?” Specific reminders tell you exactly what to do when the date arrives.
Set realistic dates
Don’t promise “I’ll send that tomorrow” if you won’t have time tomorrow. Set reminder dates you’ll actually honor - better to follow up in 3 days reliably than promise 1 day and miss it.
Combine with check-in schedules
Connections on regular check-in schedules might also need dated reminders for specific events. Use both: check-in schedule handles routine engagement, dated reminders handle one-time opportunities.
Review reminders regularly
Check your dated reminders list periodically. If you’re consistently ignoring or delaying certain reminders, either adjust the dates or remove them - don’t let unfulfilled reminders accumulate.
Set follow-up reminders after actions
When you complete a reminder (sent the proposal), immediately set the next reminder (follow up on proposal in 5 days). This creates relationship momentum - each action leads to the next.
Don’t over-rely on reminders
Dated reminders are for specific, time-sensitive actions. They’re not a substitute for regular engagement (that’s what check-in schedules are for). Use reminders for exceptions and special moments, not as your only relationship maintenance tool.
Mark completed reminders
Always mark reminders complete after taking action. This keeps your reminder list clean, prevents duplicate efforts, and creates accurate history in the connection’s timeline.
Set buffer time for complex actions
If a reminder requires significant work (creating a custom proposal, researching an introduction), set the reminder 1-2 days before you promised delivery. This gives you prep time and prevents last-minute scrambles.
Use reminders to test responsiveness
Set follow-up reminders after initial outreach. If someone doesn’t respond to 2-3 dated follow-ups, they’re not interested or not responsive - remove them from active pursuit rather than continuing to set ignored reminders.
Viewing and Managing Reminders
Reminders Tab (on contact cards)
Each connection’s contact card has a Reminders tab showing:
- All upcoming dated reminders for this connection
- Past completed reminders
Use this view to see the complete reminder history with one connection - useful before calls or meetings to understand what follow-ups are pending.
Main Reminders Dashboard
View all dated reminders across all connections in one place in The Week(s) Ahead tab:
- Today’s reminders (actions due today)
- Overdue reminders (missed dates)
- Upcoming reminders (next 7-30 days)
Your “actions with specific people” list combines with your check-in schedule list, and upcoming LinkedIn posts to give you an overview of upcoming LinkedIn activity.
Editing reminders
If dates change or actions need modification:
- Open the reminder (from contact card or main dashboard)
- Edit the date or action description
- Save changes
Deleting reminders
If a reminder becomes irrelevant (the opportunity passed, the person became unresponsive, circumstances changed):
- Open the reminder
- Delete it
- Optionally add a note to the connection explaining why the reminder was cancelled
Don’t let irrelevant reminders clutter your lists - delete them when they no longer serve strategic purpose.
Combining Reminders with Other Lime Features
Reminders + Check-In Schedules
Use both for comprehensive relationship management:
- Check-in schedules: Regular, repeated engagement (comment on their posts weekly)
- Dated reminders: One-time, specific actions (send a DM after 3 months of commenting on their posts)
Reminders + Citizen Score
Set dated reminders to engage when Citizen Scores reach certain thresholds:
- “Check score in 2 weeks - if above 70, send partnership proposal”
- “Follow up in 1 month - if relationship hasn’t grown, reduce to monthly check-ins”
Reminders + Tags
Use tags to identify which connections need reminder-based follow-ups:
- Tag: awaiting proposal response → set reminder to follow up in 5 days
- Tag: met at conference → set reminder to send “great to meet you” DM within 2 days
Reminders + Lime Segments
Move connections between funnel segments based on reminder completions:
- Reminder: “Follow up on discovery call” → if positive response, move to “Qualified” segment
- Reminder: “Check on proposal status” → if accepted, move to “Closed Won” segment
Dated reminders create the action points that drive connections through your pipeline stages.
