It’s time to take back control of your LinkedIn activity.

Yesterday we imported connections and set some check-in schedules. Today we’re going to use them.

Open The Week(s) Ahead (it’s in the Tools menu - the three dots at the top right of Lime).
This is mission control. It shows:

  • Everyone you need to engage with today (based on those check-in schedules you set)
  • Any reminders you’ve created
  • Content you’ve scheduled to publish

Right now you’ll probably see the connections you set to daily or weekly schedules. Here’s what to do:

  • Click the Activity button under the first connection’s name in the list
  • Their LinkedIn activity feed opens in LinkedIn on the right. And their contact card opens in Lime on the left
  • See if they’ve posted recently
  • If yes: comment something thoughtful
  • If no: that’s fine, click the green number in the Check-in Schedule section to snooze the reminder and try again next time
  • Log what you did by clicking the quick action button at the top of their contact card (double click it if you want to add a note about what you commented)

That’s systematic engagement. You’re not scrolling your feed hoping to stumble across important people. You’re deliberately engaging with strategically valuable connections on schedule.

Do this 3-4 times this week. Just work through a few connections from The Week(s) Ahead. Get the feel of it.

LinkedIn tip of the day: Commenting on people’s posts before you need something from them is the secret. Most people only engage when they want something, which makes them feel sales-y. Engage consistently for a few weeks before asking for anything, and you’ll be shocked how receptive people become.

And - extra bonus - if you comment on 5 LinkedIn posts before yours is published, and 5 after, your post is likely to get a lot more impressions.

Tomorrow: How to create content without staring at blank screens.
